Natural Gemstone, Lab-Created Gemstones and Imitations.

The question we get asked most often is:

"What is the difference between natural gemstones and lab-created gemstones?"

First, they are not gem imitations; lab-created gemstones are the real deal. They are grown in a laboratory but are identical chemically, physically and optically to natural gems. Often, the lab-created gemstone is actually better than the natural gemstone.  For example:  a lab-created opal has less water than a real opal, thereby making it stronger & less prone to breakage.  Because they are created in a lab, the gemstones usually have less inclusions than a natural gemstone.

Second, customers are able to get a high-end fine gemstone look for much less.

Third, lab-created stones are better for the environment.  They don't tax natural resources. No mining is required and the labs use just a small portion of utilities and resources and leave behind a lot less pollution.

Fourth, an imitation gemstone, while also artificially made, does not follow nature’s recipe, so it’s completely different  from the natural gem it copies.  Imitations are usually made from glass, plastic, ceramic or resin.

Most people cannot tell the difference between a real gemstone and a lab-created gemstone, thereby opening the jewelry market.  A normal person can now buy high-end look jewelry for just a fraction of the high-end cost.
